RENAULT-FLINS; VICTORIOUS RESUMPTION OF THE STRIKE

– Capital believed it was attacking the weak link of the metal-working industry (an isolated factory, no union tradition, a number of immigrant workers, a fascist organisation in the factories).

– It sent 5,000 CRS, mobile guards, a half-track, etc…, to protect the scabs’ “freedom to work.”

– But the workers of Flins continue the combat. Friday, at 5:00am, they amassed with a number of students in front of the thousands of cops protecting the factory.

Workers and students overtake the CRS along the route where the cars arrive, carrying the workers who were tricked into thinking they were resuming work. They get into each car to explain the situation, and quickly all of the cars are empty and the 9,000 workers are united in a meeting to continue the strike.

– It is then (10 in the morning) that the mobile guards attack the gatherings of workers in Elizabethville. Not only do the workers have no access to their factory, but the neighboring villages are also prohibited.

– All day the workers, at first surprised and unarmed, respond and hold on before the mobile guards.

Power is forced to add 50 cars of CRS during Friday night.

This morning L’Humanité says it is the student provocateurs that are at the origin of the violence. This is a lie. It was the workers of Flins (there were 8,000 of them) who sent for the students. It was the CRS, by their scandalous presence in the factory and the surrounding area, who provoked the workers of Flins. The students who wish to retake the Sorbonne understand the workers of Flins who wish to retake their factory: that’s why they were yesterday and are still at the side of the workers in the face of the repression of the bosses and the police.

The reality: is the anger of the workers.

The reality: is the fraternization of the workers and the students.

Today the strike movement turns its eyes to RENAULT-FLlNS. Entire sectors take up the struggle again; the postal sorting offices, Berliet, etc… go back on strike, seeing in the fighting spirit of the workers of Flins the sign of an ongoing struggle for the abolition of the bosses.

The workers of Flins have opened a new stage of the struggle.

LET’S MOBILIZE; all of the businesses, all of the workers, all of the students.

LET’S REINFORCE THE STRIKE MOVEMENT.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY will be two decisive days for the workers’ struggle.

“Frey – Civic Action. Head of the informers. Assassin of Charonne. Boss of the strike-breakers”
(7 June – Atelier Populaire)

This poster refers to Roger Frey – a Gaullist politician reviled for his role in the violent crackdown on protests against the Algerian War in Paris. The most notorious being the massacre of Algerians in Paris on 17 October 1961 and the 1962 Charonne Metro killings.

FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Medical students no longer want a news service controlled by the Police.

This Friday, throughout France, the Action Committees are organising rallies to support the 13,000 Workers of the ORTF that the Government would like to keep quiet; as well as to explain the political dimension of their struggle.

A rally for the Faculty has been organised for 6pm in LECTURE ROOM BINET, followed by a discussion.

The fighting, which has gone on since May 3, has shown that it’s in the streets, in the lecture rooms, through the occupation of workplaces, that the State can be made to retreat.

Everywhere, the struggle can lead to a definitive Victory.

Let’s find new ways to cut down Gaullism and to prepare the Workers’ victory.

EVERYONE COME TO LECTURE ROOM BINET, FRIDAY 7TH AT 6PM.

RENAULT-FLINS : IT CONTINUES

ON THURSDAY 5000 CRS IN HALF-TRACKS OCCUPIED THE FLINS FACTORY, BY SATURDAY THERE WERE 10,000!…
DE GAULLE ADMITS:
– the employers have the means to quickly recover the increase in salaries
– the bourgeoisie know that any continuation of the struggle poses the issue of workers’ power.

So those in power profit from the dividing the struggles in order to attempt to crush the whole working class: FLINS was attacked first because it was a isolated factory.

However the workers fought, still fight and have defeated the manoeuvre of the bourgeoisie.

For 15 days the struggle proved that unity is our real strength in the abolition of the ruling class.

THE ISOLATION OF FLINS IS BROKEN
THE STRIKE IS REINFORCED!

To help your comrades to liberate their factory:

LET’S SET UP NEW FRONTS IN THE STRUGGLE WHEREVER WE ARE, IN THE COMPANIES, IN THE DISTRICTS, IN ORDER TO BREAK UP THE STATE,S FORCES: THE CRS CAN’T BE EVERYWHERE!

GATHER TOGETHER AND TOMORROW…

National Council of French Employers
31 rue Pierre 1er de Serbie – Paris 16e

To all Workers:

Ladies,
Gentlemen,

In an agreement with the majority of your unions we have granted you many dozens of hours of extra paid leave along with significant increases in wages.

Therefore, on the eve of the summer holidays, we suggest that you leave for Club Med and no longer concern yourself with “workers’ councils” and “class struggle” .

Would you also please steer clear of occupying the factories.

Yours Sincerely,
Paris, 7 June 1968
For the C.N.P.F., the president
P. HUVELIN

Tract – “Renault leads the way” (early June 1968 – Action Committees)

RENAULT LEADS THE WAY

The state decided to make an example out of the workers of Renault, who have been at the forefront of these three weeks of fighting. To do this, it chose the moment when other sectors were returning to work. It chose the Renault corporation’s most isolated factory. THIS PUNITIVE ACT AIMED TO SET AN EXAMPLE. By doing this the state wanted to show that the established order can’t be scorned.

BUT, BY THEIR RESISTANCE, THE WORKERS OF RENAULT FLINS HAVE DEFEATED THE STATE’S CRS

Strengthened by the support of the local people, they revealed the willpower and the determination of the working class in its resolute opposition to employers’ power.

REFUSING TO INCORPORATE THEMSELVES INTO THE EMPLOYERS’ STATE, REFUSING ALL FORMES OF ILLUSORY PARTICIPATION, THEY FIGHT FOR ALL WORKERS. Effectively the benefits snatched by the workers from the bosses will, by De Gaulle’s own admission, be eaten away by inflation owing to rising prices. ONLY CONTROL THROUGH WORKERS’ POWER CAN PRESERVE THESE BENEFITS AGAINST EVERY RECLAMATION OF THE EMPLOYERS.

The struggle of the workers at Flins demonstrates that the phase of social tranquility isrelative and that, tomorrow, the movement can begin again with vigour, strengthened by the experience it has acquired.

LET’S SUPPORT THE BATTLE OF EVERY WORKER ON STRIKE.
LET’S JOIN IN WITH THE STRUGGLE OF THE WORKERS AT FLINS.

 THE ACTION COMMITTEES
